The Model 1918 steel helmet was slightly modified in 1940. Starting in 1943, the smooth, olive-green surface was given a rough coating of anthracite-colored sawdust and glue to improve camouflage.

The Model 1918 steel helmet was slightly modified in 1940. The police wore the same helmets as the army, although some were painted green.

This helmet is made of aluminum and is significantly lighter than the Stahlhelm model 1918 and 1940. The inner lining has 3 pads, each fixed with 3 rivets.
